KIMBLE DEMANDS THAT NYPA BE FAIR TO NIAGARA COUNTY

KIMBLE TO NYPA: “WE’RE WATCHING YOU”…LEGISLATOR DEMANDS THAT POWER AUTHORITY CONSIDER NIAGARA COUNTY AS SITE OF WIND FARM FACILITY!

Question: Where NYPA’s most productive facility?

Answer: Niagara County.

Next Question: Where is the one place NYPA is NOT currently considering for the construction of a brand new Lake Ontario/Lake Erie wind farm, a facility that will create thousands of jobs?

Answer:…You guessed it, also Niagara County!

How can this be?

Niagara County Legislator Renae Kimble is wondering about that along with the rest of us.

“We should be demanding that the process by which NYPA chooses a site for this $1 billion wind farm energy facility is fair, open, and transparent,” she declares. “Right now they are putting out a request for proposal related to this project and I think we have the right to know the contents of these documents are and whether Niagara County is being discriminated against in some way. After all, we produce more energy than any other site they have in the entire state and our facility also produces more revenue for them. So why are we being discriminated against?”

Legislator Kimble is especially concerned about remarks made by a NYPA Trustee at a recent public meeting.

“Mr. D. Patrick Curley, a member of the Board of Trustees of NYPA was talking about the wind farm project and he mentioned Erie County as a possible site, but he didn’t mention Niagara County at all,” she recalls. “I’d like to know why.”

Kimble points out that what is hanging in the balance here is not just a few wind mills.

“This is a $1 billion project that is going to create thousands of jobs,” she declares. “So far we haven’t had one request for information from Niagara County officials in connection with the wind farm project. But, this kind of thing is going to stop. I want to make sure NYPA knows that I’m not going to let them ignore us. I want them to know that we’re watching them.”
